Thirty-five golfers will vie for spots in the U.S. Golf Association and New York State junior championships in a qualifying round Monday at the Country Club of Troy.
Two spots are available for the U.S. Junior Amateur, to be played July 23-27 at Flagstaff, Ariz. Eleven berths will be given to the New York State Junior Open July 29-Aug. 1 at Ridgemont Country Club in Rochester.
There also are three spots available for the state Junior Boys Championship, open to players under age 14.

Rugby tournament:The Albany Knickerbockers Rugby Club today will travel to Stowe, Vt., to participate in the 22nd annual Mad River Invitational Rugby Tournament, which runs through Sunday.
The Knickerbockers -- who were runners-up in last year's event -- will play their first match against the Hartford Wanderers at 11 this morning and then take on the Montreal Barbarians at 2 p.m.
If Albany wins both matches, it will advance to Sunday's finals against the winner of the other bracket featuring teams from White Plains, Burlington, Vt., and the host Mad River Club.
Becker Classic:The inaugural Becker Golf Classic will be held Monday, July 29, at the New Course at Albany. The entry fee of $120 per player includes lunch, golf cart, green fees, golf balls, refreshments on the course, awards buffet and special gifts. Entries are limited to 120 players (30 foursomes). Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with tee off at 12:30 p.m.
The golf classic will benefit the Ben M. Becker Memorial College Scholarship Fund at the State University of New York. It will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Albany High School who demonstrates financial need, participates in inter-scholastic sports and possesses an outstanding academic record.
